One Year Ago...

I've had complaints that my last entry was too short. When my fan base of two is unhappy--I am unhappy. Hi Mom and Dad (:

Tomorrow marks my ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY with the Nova/DC area!!! Hurrah, everyone clap and cheer! Oh wait...i think i hear a chant from the crowd..."speech! speech! SPEECH! SPEECH!!"

[Jennifer raises her arms to quiet the crowd.]

"Friends, friends! Thank you...please...settle down."

"WE LOVE YOU JEN!" Someone shouts from the crowd.

"No, I love YOU!" Jennifer says pointing to the manager of Super H. [Crowd finally settles down.] "Friends, it was one year ago today that I stepped foot into this great area. Since then my taste buds have dulled so as to fellowship with my new Korean friends. Not only that, but my Korean vocabulary has increased FOUR fold (meaning i now know four korean phrases). I feel like i am a changed woman. Why? Because countless hours with the Style section of the Post has caused me to think in four to five-letter synonyms.

"Friends, it was also one year ago that I began my love relationship with a massive asian grocery store named Super H. Strawberries for 1.99/lb?! Watermelon for 3.99?! No wonder i feel short of breath when I walk through those sliding doors. They had me at 'harro.'

"And what about that fantastic Metro system? Can we give a hand for the Metro?!"

[Crowd chants] "HIP-HIP-HURRAY! HIP-HIP-HURRAY!"

"The orange line rocks, doesn't it? Yeah, i remember the first time I used the Metro...I took photos--and i'm not ashamed of that.

"And what about that FANtastic road system huh? I love how this city says, 'Why make things simple?!' I embrace the challenges. I love how 66 is clogged no matter what time it is. I love how the local roads twist and turn--you'd think after making four right turns you'd end up where you started...nope. Not here.

"But who could complain about the weather? I mean, minus the snow, rainstorms, and constant overbearing humidity, you're left with 7 days of pure bliss. I spend 4 of those days indoors monitoring the weather from my desktop--but I know if I were outside, it would be good.

"Seriously though, this whole year is evidence of God's goodness to me. I've experienced so many new things and met so many awesome people who have made my transition here a pleasant one. A special shout-out to my Xroaders(+dc) who have been the icing on the cake--thanks for putting up with me."

[Crowd roars! Jennifer is presented with a fruit basket from Super H. She waves and exits the stage.]
